WCGL Committees

Transportation Committee

The WCGL Transportation Committee provides an opportunity for local leaders to develop regional transportation strategies for Will County.  The WCGL Transportation Committee is comprised of 24 municipalities that participate in the Council of Mayors’ Surface Transportation Program.  The Surface Transportation Program (STP) provides millions of federal transportation dollars to local communities to implement local road projects.  

In addition to the STP program, the Committee also works to find outside funding sources for local transportation projects.    The Transportation Committee works with IDOT, ISTHA, RTA, Metra, and Pace on various projects these agencies have throughout the region.  The WCGL Transportation Committee also works closely with the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) to ensure the desires and needs of Will County communities are recognized in the region’s long-term planning process.

Public Works Committee

The Public Works Advisory Committee provides an opportunity for Public Works Directors/Superintendents and area utility providers to share information on a regular basis and provides a forum for intergovernmental collaboration.  All public works directors/superintendents or their representatives are invited to attend the meetings.  The Public Works Advisory Committee also hosts APWA Click, Listen and Learn Webcast Trainings at the WCGL Offices.  These trainings; on various Public Works topics provide 2 hours of Continuing Education Credit for those who attend.  Thanks to sponsorship from Comcast, the WCGL is able to bring these trainings its members at no cost.   To register for Public Works Trainings, click the icon below.  The Public Works Advisory Committee will be meeting Jointly with the Southwest Branch of the APWA.  The groups will meet on the first Wednesday of the month at 11:30am at Heroes West Joliet.

Legislative and Intergovernmental Committee

The Legislative and Intergovernmental Committee proposes policies and initiatives on state and federal legislation affecting municipal and county governments.  League members have the opportunity to participate in the legislative process of the Illinois General Assembly through an annual trip to Springfield, seminars, and meetings with legislators.  This Committee also serves as a forum for intergovernmental dialogue on major topics affecting municipal and county governments in Will County.
